These Enchanted Fairytale Favour Boxes are perfect to tell your love story at fairytale or fantasy themed weddings! They have been handcrafted into little pillows for true, dreamy appeal and each corner has been embellished with small tassles made from gold thread. Each box has an excerpt from a different traditional fairytale including Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty, taken from a book of english fairytales printed in the early 1900s. They script on the boxes read either: ‘Once upon a time…’, ‘A long time ago…’, ‘Happily ever after…’ and ‘In a land far, far away’ in a vintage font. A small touch of decorative reindeer moss and a deep green gemstone brings a touch of enchanted forest to the boxes and each one is finished with a small pearl heart embellishment to complete the love story! These favour boxes are perfect for an enchanting fairytale themed wedding or event and are priced at £2.25 each.
Picture this, she rocks up at your wedding with Betty, a 1950′s themed ice cream van, decked out in Cath Kidston and bunting a plenty. Inside, the vintage ice cream van is packed full of old fashioned goodies to treat your guests.

Guests can choose from locally produced farmhouse ice cream and retro flavoured lollies (cherry brandy, cider, lager and lime), old fashioned sweets from the jars, pretty glass bottled drinks such as dandelion and burdock, cloudy lemonade and her grandma’s favourite ginger beer!
Fabulous idea and no suprise that Hayley and Betty have just won Country Homes magazine’s<a href="http://countrydays.wordpress.com/2010/06/04/run-your-own-country-business-winners/"target="_blank"> Run Your own Country Business of the Year award and will be featured in the mag this September! Congrats to you both! This is vintage heaven and I imagine a popular attraction with the kiddies too.
I asked Hayley how she came up with the idea (it is a great one) to restore this 1973 Bedford cf, and then use it to serve up old fashioned fabulousness around the country.
“I started up as I just love vintage/ retro style….Betty is just an extension of all my passions!!! I love my job…I can smile, poodle along driving her to pretty garden parties, weddings and summer fetes!!!! And wear the most floral frocks and flowers in my hair xx My Mum died last year age 53 and I decided to do something fun…my mum would love it!!!!”

Betty can be hired for events in Bucks, Beds and Northants and can even be transported further afield should she be needed. Prices start from £200 but obviously depends on location, number of guests etc, so its best to speak to Hayley about your personal needs – for more info have a look at the site, <a href="http://www.vintagescoops.co.uk/"target="_blank">Vintage Scoops.

What do you think ladies (and gentlemen if you are reading) isn’t this just the cutest idea? I’m trying to conjure up some events so I can get Betty down to London.

And he definitely looks the part too!

Simon is really passionate about what he does and clearly loves entertaining all the guests with his music. When it comes to choosing the songs he sends the couple his repertoire list so that they can let him know of any favourites that they would like to be sung. And here he is on his newly released Youtube video

And here is another one from his repertoire
PENNIES FROM HEAVEN sung by Simon

I asked Simon a couple of questions: Why sing vintage songs at weddings? and What do you particularly like about singing music from this era?

“One word – elegance. It isn’t just nostalgia that prompts so many couples to adopt vintage themes for their wedding, I think it’s a genuine longing for a style and sophistication that’s sadly absent from so much of life today. Music has the unique ability to short-cut the conscious mind and tap straight into the emotions and that’s just what songs like “The Way You Look Tonight” and “Cheek to Cheek” do – the moment you hear them you’re instantly transported to a bygone era of elegance and romance. I challenge anyone not to smile and tap their foot when they listen to the songs I sing!
The other reason is that I simply love singing great songs and these are some of the greatest songs ever written. And to sing them for people in love on the happiest day of their lives?! Well, to quote Irving Berlin, “Heaven. I’m in heaven.”

Prices start from £300 for an hour set. For more info go to Simon Partridge where you can also listen to more of his songs. I’d really love to get some feedback on this – what do you guys think?

I suppose this is like a disorganised inspiration board (after the event!). I’m not sure about the black background, but I can’t really have a white one.

Lucy, founder of Pretty Vintage,is right in saying ‘The once quirky concept of vintage has snuck into the mainstream’ but that doesn’t mean we love it any less. How perfect that there are now so many fabulous vintage suppliers based here in the UK. We’ve had the <a href="http://www.littlemisswedding.co.uk/ideas/vintage-caravan-the-perfect-prop-for-a-vintage-wedding/"target="_blank">vintage caravan from MyVintageParty (she does vintage crockery hire too), the 1920′s inspired dresses and now all you need to top off the perfect wedding tea party is to take your pick from this eclectic selection of vintage goodies. Teacups, saucers, plates, jugs, sugar bowls, candlesticks and beautiful embroidered table linen all to hire from <a href="http://www.prettyvintage.co.uk/"target="_blank">Pretty Vintage.

I’ll be featuring a round up of a whole load of people offering vintage crockery hire soon (there are lots of good ones) but in the meantime I thought I’d post this to keep you going. Lucy, from Pretty Vintage, is lovely, very efficient and definitely worth getting in touch with – she also offers a bespoke service sourcing additional vintage items upon request, to tailor specifically for any setting and special occasion.. She is based in Norwich but can deliver nationwide.

Have you used any good vintage crockery hire companies? What do you think of a vintage tea party, cupcakes and champagne for a wedding celebration – let me know your thoughts!

P.S. I’m also practising my skills at making collages whilst on my e-blogging course. I’ve wanted to know how to do this for ages and have been struggling, what a relief that its all becoming clear now! This is just the beginning so hopefully my posts and photos will begin to look better and better!

I know we’re way into 2010 already but given that I think I have some new readers, who presumably haven’t had a chance to trawl through all my old blog entries, I thought that might be a good time to highlight some of the popular posts on LMW last year. As you know every post on LMW has a special something (hence why I featured it) but here is a pick of those definitely worth another read….

1 * Everyone is talking about Teal as the wedding colour of 2010 so no wonder this <a href="http://www.littlemisswedding.co.uk/planners/winter-wedding-warmth-with-fuchsia-teal-and-pewter/"target="_blank">Fuchsia Teal and Pewter Inspiration Board has been a favourite – Helen Carter’s inspiration boards are fab. I need to learn how to do them myself!

2 * I might be biased because I had one, but there is something so romantic and cosy about a winter wedding. I love the work of <a href="http://www.elementalweddings.co.uk/"target="_blank">Elemental Photography and <a href="http://planetflowers.blogspot.com/"target="_blank">Planet Flowers – both who were involved in this very special <a href="http://www.littlemisswedding.co.uk/real-life-weddings/edinburgh-wedding-jude-and-matt-tie-the-knot/"target="_blank">Edinburgh wedding where Jude and Matt tied the knot at the end of last year. That is the bridesmaids bouquet – a lovely change from the norm.

3 * I have to mention this one as its clearly very popular with my readers -the fantastic <a href="http://www.littlemisswedding.co.uk/dresses/1920s-vintage-wedding-shoot/"target="_blank">1920′s vintage wedding shoot – dresses by Lindsay Fleming are gorgeous and so on trend (you can read more about his dresses in this subsequent post <a href="http://www.littlemisswedding.co.uk/events/1920s-inspired-wedding-dresses-coming-to-london/"target="_blank">1920′s inspired wedding dresses). I love the wedding venue <a href="http://www.houseforanartlover.co.uk/"target="_blank">House for an Art Lover in Glasgow, Scotland and <a href="http://www.archibaldphotography.co.uk/"target="_blank">Archibald Photography, as always do a great job on the photography side of things.

4 * For those of you in the ‘wedding blog’ know, Kat from RocknRollBride.com is one of our top UK bloggers (and LMW is all about showcasing UK talent). I was lucky enough to do an interview with her about how she got in to blogging, what she loves about it and get behind the scenes with <a href="http://www.littlemisswedding.co.uk/blogs-bloggers/behind-the-scenes-with-rocknrollbride-com/"target="_blank">Kat from RocknRoll bride.com
That is her below, she now has bright pink hair! – photo by <a href="http://www.englishroseweddings.co.uk/"target="_blank">English Rose Weddings .

5 * Last, but by no means least – really natural <a href="http://www.littlemisswedding.co.uk/flowers-decor/summer-wedding-flowers-seasonal-and-scented/"target="_blank">summer wedding flowers for a summer wedding at High Road House, Chiswick, London. This post really meant something special to me as not only did we spend our first night of married bliss at this lovely hotel, but Britt, from Flourish and Green, also did the flowers at our wedding too. If you’re looking for natural summer wedding flower inspiration then do take a look at this post.

I hope you have enjoyed this post – I could go on forever as there are good few more worth a mention (including <a href="http://www.littlemisswedding.co.uk/photography/weddings-and-wellies-engagement-frolics-on-the-farm/"target="_blank">Wedding and Wellies engagement shoot) but I’ll leave those for another time.

What do you think? Were there any posts on LMW that you particularly liked reading? Do you prefer real life weddings, engagement shoots, or looking at floral inspiration? Its great to get your feedback.

When Debbie asked if I’d like to review her vintage wedding bouquets I definitely wasn’t expecting something as cool and stylish as this to land in my inbox… for some reason I was expecting them to be floral. These exquisite creations are just fab – exactly the sort of unique touches that I like to feature on LMW.

Debbie uses vintage and vintage-style jewellery and buttons mixed with crystal and pearl beads and luxe fabrics like silk, satin, velvet and lace to create spectacular bespoke bridal bouquets.

Each bouquet is a one-off individual piece created from antique and vintage store finds, which means that every bride can be sure she will be walking down the aisle with her own unique creation. Whats more it doesn’t die straight after the wedding, its eco-friendly and can be kept forever (and lent to friends that are getting married – something borrowed!)

Debbie also has off-the-peg bouquets available to buy immediately which means that even the most last-minute-bride can have a stunning unique bouquet within days of ordering. And for those of you wanting to coordinate the vintage look across the whole wedding party then she can create matching items too – bridesmaid posies, corsages and buttonholes.

A little word from Debbie…
“A vintage wedding is a fantastic opportunity for brides to include sentimental family heirlooms in their day. I like to suggest that they dig out treasured items of jewellery – or even buttons from an item of clothing that means something special – to be wired into their unique personalised bouquet. This way brides can “wear” meaningful items that would perhaps look
out of place if worn in a more traditional manner.

The things guests tend to remember about weddings are the personal touches that are unique to the couple – and it is those same familiar touches that will help a bride feel comfortable, relaxed and at ease, ready to enjoy her special day”

Ooh Debbie loving your work! There are lots of <a href="http://www.littlemisswedding.co.uk/index.php/vintage-wedding-ideas/"target="_blank">vintage wedding ideas on LMW and make sure that you check out her site to view or buy some of Debbie Carlisle’s handmade vintage wedding bouquets at <a href="http://www.dcbouquets.co.uk/"target="_blank">dcbouquets. For the twitterers amongst you Debbie’s twitter address is @dcbouquets.co.uk.

The <a href="http://www.littlemisswedding.co.uk/index.php/wedding-dresses/1920s-vintage-wedding-shoot/"target="_blank">1920′s vintage wedding shoot is one of my most popular posts, which has had me thinking for a while that I need to find a specialist or two who can help me out in this area. I have to admit I’ve got a lot to learn when it comes to talking vintage. So I was over the moon to find Lynsey Le Keux, a Vintage Wedding Planner for LeKeux Events who is going to blog on all things vintage from now on – Happy Days.

So you want to go vintage? You won’t regret it! The perfect vintage wedding can be achieved by anyone; it just needs some careful planning and lots of research around your inspiration! The challenge you face in successfully creating a tasteful era-inspired and unique celebration, is to not make it seem like a ‘themed’ wedding. A vintage wedding isn’t a costume party, but instead a nod to the glamour of eras gone by and a chance to have fun with fashion and styling for your big day. But fear not, this article will give you all the tips you need to get started.
Your first stop in creating a vintage wedding will be your original inspiration. As a wedding planner, I always ask brides to bring a photograph, movie or book that represents the fashion, era, backdrop and feel of the vintage wedding they are dreaming of. From this we create the entire wedding design from the dress (which is often the centre of the inspiration), to the decor, transport and well…everything really.

You don’t have to get original pieces from your chosen era to get the look you want (although this is, of course amazing if achievable), but I would recommend at least some vintage items. For example, if you have a new dress in a period style, choose a vintage hair piece or millinery. You could even get a veil made from some old lace from your chosen era. For the backdrop to your day, think about hiring vintage crockery, at least for the cake and other food on display, or mirror the beading in your accessories through the table decorations to achieve a consistent look. Little, and actually quite inexpensive details, such as vintage mirrors around the venue, can also really pull the look together. For details on vintage suppliers please contact me (details at end of post)

Consistency is also key to truly achieving a vintage styled wedding that feels authentic. For example choose a car or transport reflective of the era. A classic Ford Mustang is perfect for 1950s/60s styled weddings. During one of our weddings, the car actually got nicknamed the fourth bridesmaid because it was the same beautiful shade of electric teal as the bridesmaids’ dresses.

Music is also a fabulous way to celebrate an era and there are lots of authentic bands out there from 1960′s Motown to big brass bands. If you can’t afford a band, style the DJ and equipment as vintage as possible to keep with the style. Always choose something your guests can dance to and playing pre-recorded popular music in between the band sessions will get everyone dancing – even those who are not familiar with the music of that era. Modern music has replicated genres such as Swing Jazz and songs such as Candyman by Christina Aguilera are perfect for a 1940′s wedding and will get all the young ones dancing too.

I often get asked how to bring guests into the wedding design; whilst I don’t recommend asking everyone to go out and buy a 1930′s outfit for an art deco wedding. I think your wedding photos and more importantly the feel on the day, will benefit from your guests taking consideration over what to wear at your vintage wedding. You can invite your guests to join the look by using your inspiration on the invites. For example take a still from a movie from your chosen era, one which encompasses the fashion you are inspired by and use this to make a card with the words ‘join us in our 1950′s inspired wedding…’ inside. Politely mention to friends how lovely it would be to have authentic photos together if they wore 1950s dresses – but remember no costumes… many high street stores stock clothes inspired by the 20′s, 50′s, 60′s and 70′s. Shops stocking fabulous vintage style dresses at the moment include Cath Kidston for summer informal florals, Ghost for a fabulous modern take on 1920′s glamour and for ultimate 1940′s and 1950′s style try Rose and Co. in Leeds.
