Summer Wedding bouquets and arrangements

Thanks to Britt and Liz from Flourish & Green for sending me these photos from a recent wedding – The bride is actually a friend of mine’s sister and I recommended Britt, seeing as she did a fab job at my own wedding a couple of years ago. She uses local and seasonal flowers and foliage – the arrangements below look so crisp and fresh!What a wonderful mix of fresh, seasonal flowers for this summer wedding at Pembridge Lodge, in Richmond Park – Hydrangeas, Delphiniums, Stocks, garden roses call Walzertrum, Peonies, Oreganum, Flowering Mint, Alchemilla, Lisianthus, Beech foliage for the big pedestals and Ivy for the other foliage. Love Peonies… so wanted them at my own wedding but got the seasons a bit confused as they are definitely not the flower of choice in the winter. Still I was very happy with my roses and berries!* What did you really love about doing this wedding?
We loved taking the bride and her mother for a market visit and although her dream was to have sweet peas, they were just going over, which we stressed to her and in the end we had to use mostly peonies and roses – she welled up with delight when she saw it – just a lovely moment to remember. Another lovely bit was seeing them after the wedding when although trying to hide away looking very grubby and tired we got huge hugs and kisses from Dawn (mother of the bride) who couldn’t have been lovelier!The Mother of the bride sent a glowing testimonial and here are just a few of her words…
The Church flowers and arrangements at Pembroke Lodge were absolutely perfect. You understood exactly the look that Kate wanted and got it completely right. All those words breath taking, stunning, magnificient seem too predictable so really I’m at a loss as to how to express our appreciation. We loved everything.
Wow well clearly only a good word to say about Britt and Liz from Flourish & Green and I have to say that I had the same experience with them at my wedding. Spring Wedding Flowers

As I keep saying I love spring weddings – the flowers are always so fresh and blooming in Spring. For those of you planning a spring wedding you are so lucky as there so many fabulous seasonal flowers to choose from like cream and pink hyacinths.

These photos are from 2 different shoots, taken at Great Fosters Hotel, Surrey – I’m quite impressed that Juliet, the photographer and her assistant, Debbie, arranged all the bouquets as the flowers are gorgeous. Beautiful petal shades competition

Aren’t these petal shades gorgeous. I think that is how you describe them… though I would also call them a lantern (without the light!) – a fellow blogger on OK Tea let me know about a competition that she is running to win one so I thought that I would let you know – just click here to enter the competition

I went to a wedding in someone’s garden last summer and they had lots of lanterns hanging from the trees and it just looked so pretty. Even if you don’t win you can buy them for just $10 on Etsy which I have to say is fantastic value. Don’t worry about the price being in $ as it will just convert it to £ and the seller is from the UK. I love to feature little touches like this that you can use for decorations on your special day – let me know what you think.

Its all about the LOVE

I’m a hopeless romantic – you only have to say the word ‘LOVE’ and I start melting into a happy haze. I also ‘love’ supporting british designers and suppliers on LMW so I thought that I would post this little melange of loveliness that I found on Vintage Amethsyt – an online shop selling lots of vintage arts and crafts. These are perfect little touches to include on your wedding day, use them to decorate the reception, on the tables, or to help style your table plan.

These are incredibly good value at start at only £4.50 for the lovely willow heart and go up to £30 for the silver LOVE letters. Oh I love this site, Vintage Amethyst I am so glad that I just stumbled upon it (via Twitter) – I’ve just had a quick look at her blog which is equally lovely.

What do you think? Are these the sort of accessories that you would use for decorating your venue? Or would you just like to hang one of those lovely willow hearts above your bed? (I’m getting carried away now…)

Spring Wedding Flowers – Hyacinths all the way.

There aren’t nearly enough spring weddings flowers around – I regularly get pictures of lovely bright summery wedding bouquets, but the autumn and spring arrangements don’t get nearly as much air time. So I thought I’d change that by posting this beautiful spring bridal bouquet, sent to me (and photographed) by Planet Flowers.
There must be lots of you getting married in Spring that are looking for inspiration and ideas for your flowers. Well, if you’re anything like me, and don’t even have a clue what will be in season its definitely worth thinking about including hyacinths in the mix – fresh, seasonal and smell Amazing.

and here are the names for those of you wondering (I was)
Blue Grape Hyacinths, Paperwhites, Roses, White Lilac, Ranunculus

The couple, who got married at Inveraray Castle, last Spring, chose hyacinths all the way – so fresh, so simple and the venue must have smelt divine! Its all about choosing local and seasonal flowers – you can’t have peonies all year round!. It seems that Planet Flowers always help their brides to choose flowers that fill the bill and hence looks fresh and gorgeous, whatever the time of year. Spring is a great time for scented flowers so don’t forget that these will be in bloom too : snowdrops, blossom, tulips, daffodils and anemones.

Pretty outdoor wedding arrangements

This photo is from a wedding at Dundas Castle – a beautiful historic venue near Edinburgh, Scotland. Bay trees were placed at the entrance to the Keep with garlands of mini orchids hanging from them. What a lovely idea.

In keeping with the colour scheme the wooden staircases inside were decorated with green foliage and white orchids. The two colours working really well with the wooden backdrop.

Dundas Castle is one of Scotland’s most beautiful and historic castles and is a perfect 5 star wedding venue if you are looking for somewhere to get married near Edinburgh. Autumn Wedding Bridal Bouquets

I love autumn flowers – the rich reds, oranges and yellows. I’ve been dying to showcase some autumnal wedding flower arrangements (even though I am acutely aware that we’re now moving on to the cusp of autumn/ winter!) so I was pretty happy when I got these lovely pics from Planet Flowers. I feature their work quite a lot on LMW because quite simply I love it and also they always seem to use seasonal and local flowers and foliage.

This wedding was on the 14th November at Drumtochty Castle, an award winning wedding venue in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Gemma from Planet Flowers explains how they created these lovely arrangements, which flowers they chose and why.

This was the brides bouquet, the bride LOVED twinkle!! This bouquet is all Stephanotis, a true bridal flower with an amazing scent. We used an under planting of white hydrangea and as the bride wasn’t too keen on greenery we used an under planting of tight gypsophila to finish the bouquet. As the bridle loved sparkles and twinkles we added diamantes in to some of the Stephanotis so it twinkled when the light caught it.

As the bridesmaid was wearing chocolate we wanted her bouquet to be the start of the autumnal theme, rather than a traditional mixed bouquet we made almost a bulls eye design! Using burnt orange Ranunculus for the centre with a surround of orange orchids and then Hypericum.

The finish of a bridal bouquet is so important – we used gorgeous autumnal ivy to finish the bouquet with chocolate satin ribbon to match her dress.

Last but not least this was the Flower girls miniature version of the bridesmaids – super cute!!

I love the bridesmaids’ and flower girl’s bouquets as they are so colourful and pretty, but also the brides bouquet is gorgeous with the white hydrangea and gypsophila. Autumn Wedding Flower Arrangements

We’re so lucky with this gorgeous autumn weather – it made me think its the perfect time to have a quick peek at a lovely autumnal wedding arrangement lots of warm orange and rusty red hues.

“We loved doing this display for Francesa and were delighted with the feel it created, it so fitted in with the surroundings in Norland Square. We used available foliage together with hydrangeas, gorgeous golden and rusted coloured chrysanthemums, michaelmas daisies, rose hips and lilies which gave such a gentle autumn feeling with the surrounding trees in the square also turning colour” said Britt from Flourish & Green

I love the way that Britt uses locally sourced and seasonal flowers in her wedding arrangements. Having done the flowers at mine, and a couple of friends wedding I know she is reliable, fantastic value and the flowers look great. Buttonholes fit for a wedding – one of my little obsessions

I love buttonholes – I always look at the boys buttonholes at weddings to see if they have the usual limp rose with petals falling out or if they’re wearing something a little out of the ordinary. Here are a selection of some of my favourites and a few tips to make sure that you get your buttonholes really fresh on the day …..

Honey Moon Tulip Buttonholes (PlanetFlowers)

I asked the lovely ladies at Planet Flowers for some pics of buttonholes, explaining my fetish for them and I got a whole load more than I bargained for….. these are really beautifully done, carefully crafted and showcase how you can use different flowers, combinations and colours for a bit of standout.

Crystal Blush Calla Buttonholes (Planet Flowers)

Vendelle Rose with Eryngium Buttonholes (Planet Flowers)

These ones above are my favourite – a bit cool and edgy (like the prickles on the Eryngium and the fact that it brings in some colour)

Nicole Rose Buttonholes (Planet Flowers)

You can see the little drips of water on the flowers (they are sprayed to keep them fresh). It is so important to get them just at the right stage of blooming as normally they are prepared the previous day. The last thing that you want is petals falling out on the day and tired and droopy buttonholes – not a good look. I would thoroughly recommend getting your florist to do a trial run and seeing how they last the day after they have done them (or ask to see some pics of other weddings).

Garnet Glow Calla Buttonholes (Planet Flowers)

These buttonholes all look to be in tip top condition and show that there are so many variations to choose from. If you are up in Scotland would definitely recommend looking up these ladies at Planet Flowers as they definitely know what they are talking about when it comes to flowers. I have blogged about them before and their arrangements of beautiful summer wedding bouquets.

I could not believe how long it took Britt who did my wedding flowers to do the 20 or so buttonholes for my wedding, but they really were a masterpiece, looked beautiful and I am happy to say there wasn’t a loose or droopy petal at the party. I had thought they were the relatively easy and cheap last minute addition on the wedding flower list, but actually I realised they involve a lot of time and effort on the florists behalf and is a great way for the groom and his ushers to show their sense of style. For my winter wedding I choose cream roses and berries and they were beautiful (still trying to find a photo so that to follow!)
