1950′s wedding dresses – a sneek preview….

At the weekend I was lucky enough to meet up with David and Grace from award winning designers, Lindsay Fleming, who were down from Scotland meeting up with brides. I got to chat to them about their gorgeous 1920′s inspired wedding collection, their celtic dresses and to have a sneek preview at the amazing designs for their new 1950′s collection.
1950's wedding dress shoot I first heard of Lindsay Fleming, when I was sent some amazing photos of their 1920′s inspired wedding dress collection, photographed by Archibald Photography at House for an Art Lover, in Glasgow and The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh. This has gone on to be one of my most popular posts ever on LMW and you can see why – the photos and the dresses are stunning. Mark-Archibald 1920's inspired wedding dress shoot
When we met last weekend I was able to have a look at their stunning 1920′s inspired dresses from the ‘All That Jazz’ Collection – each one beautifully designed, handmade by Grace and some with incredibly intricate detailing. These dresses are fantastic value, starting from £1150 and going up to £2400.
Unsuprisingly, the ‘All That Jazz’ Collection brought with it a good deal of PR coverage in many of the glossy bridal mags, with dresses from the collection featuring in bridal shoots, and all the wedding blogs (like mine) desperate to get a piece of the action. I hear from Grace and David that brides travel from far and wide (US, Holland, France, Italy) to come to their bridal shop in the tiny Scottish Village of Abington to buy the dress of their dreams.

Now Grace is hard at work on her new collection of 1950’s wedding dresses. It’s a natural move on from her recent 1920’s inspired collection, and something that she and Mark Archibald (the photographer) believe will be much in demand. I had a look at some of the sketches for the new collection (which you can also see on Love My Dress blog) and some photos from a recent fashion shoot. Grace and David are lucky enough to have a daughter-in-law that looks stunning modelling these dresses, again, photographed by award winning photographers, Archibald Photography.

I can’t wait to see the rest of the collection. Do make sure that you check out both their sites – whilst Grace is the dress designer, her husband, David, looks after all the marketing and the website for Lindsay Fleming – he is clearly a busy man as there is loads there, including photos and sketches of the new collection. And be sure to take a look at award winning photographers, Archibald Photography for lots of other gorgeous wedding photos and inspiration.

What do you think of the sneak preview – do you like the idea of a 1950′s dress??

Ugo Zaldi – stylish, comtemporary, chic bridal wear.

wedding dressA lovely girl, Laure, emailed me saying ‘ Will you give my brand a chance?’ … well when I got the photos through it was a no brainer … these dresses are right up my boulevard, and I can tell you its not everyday that I get emailed things that I want to feature on LMW. If it wasn’t for the fact that I ‘have’ to wear a bra I would have picked something like this for my own wedding – so stylish, cool and original. I LOVE these. I also like to showcase up and coming designers on LMW, whilst Ugo Zaldi are french, they do sell in lots of UK boutiques.
The label, Ugo Zaldi, was created was created 8 years ago by Laure’s 2 brothers – initially to create affordable cocktail dresses. Then, 2 year ago, they decided to do launch a bridal range, with the belief that any bride should be able find a great dress, in good material, with luxury styles, at an affordable price.
“We have always been attached to the purity of our styles and the fluidity of the dresses. Elegance, contemporary and chic spirit, are our main target for each creation. We are not that into “puffy” dresses, and have noticed that many girls wanted to find new refreshing bridal styles! The dresses can be worn for any wedding styles, eve for 2nd weddings, weddings abroad etc. Our dresses are exclusively made with 100% silk, and our embroideries are all Swarovski certificated and hand-made.”
For this sort of quality and style I think they are really great value with dresses starting at approx 700€ for a short bridal dress, and going up to about 1500€ for a long dress (available in UK 6 to UK 22). What are we thinking ladies??

Pretty Bridesmaid dresses

I was just having lunch with some family friends and we were discussing my best friend’s wedding (her hen was last night so yes I am feeling a little bit jaded). We were talking about page boy outfits and bridesmaid dresses, I’m going to be a bridesmaid and I am wondering what little winkle will wear. I know there’s Monsoon, and other high street shops but there is also a whole host of fantastic sites out there that offer pretty dresses which are great value for money – the problem is knowing where to find them. So an email from Perfume River telling me about their sale couldn’t have been more timely.

What do we think? Sweet aren’t they? and they start from £20 in the sale – you don’t need to spend exorbitant amounts of cash to make your little bridesmaids feel like princesses! The site is easy to navigate and there are lots of clear photos so that you can see the dresses both on little girls and on the peg. So for those of you wanting to snap up a bargain check out Perfume River. Perfume River has a lovely story too, its named after a very famous river in Vietnam, which runs through the imperial city of Hue – Ha the owner was born there and spent her childhood there, until they fleed the country during the war.

I am always so impressed by people that take the plunge and follow their dream, which is why I like to support one off designers like this on LMW. And I’ll leave you with a little quote from Ha
“The stress of work and raising a young family drove me to strike out on my own. I wanted more control of my time to enjoy the children. Perfume River is the third best thing (1st my girls and 2nd my husband!) that has ever happened to me. Running a business is like an evolving beast, you get to tick lots of boxes as you go along, which I love to do.”

I love Morgan Davies… I might be biased because it’s where I got my wedding dress from. They were fantastic and made me feel like a million dollars.
I always wax lyrical about them and its not just me.  4 or 5 of my friends  also got their dresses from there and they all have equally good reports (check out Gemma in this real life wedding).

black dress By Eleanor Ofori

Is Black the New White?

When it comes to wedding dresses there has been lots of chat recently about black being the new white? So I’m completely on topic when I say that I am in love with this black dress designed by Eleanor Ofori.

black dress By Eleanor Ofori

I met Eleanor at the National Wedding Show. She makes beautiful bespoke wedding dresses and I was instantly drawn to her lovely designs. Clearly a very talented (and also lovely to chat to) lady. Given the huge number of glowing testimonials I’ve read its clearly a dream working with her to create your perfect wedding dress.

Eleanor designs not only the wedding dress but accessories, veils and everything for the bridal party from dresses for the bridesmaids and flower girls to matching ties for the Groom, or the ushers.

She has 3 different wedding dress services to suit different needs and budgets.

1. Made to measure Silk collection – sold at selected stockists (listed on her site) with prices starting from £1550.00

2. Bespoke service where she meets with clients to discuss style ideas for their wedding dress. From here sketches are made along with a selection of possible fabric beading ideas. A toile will be made of the selected style, and only once all style lines have been agreed will the dress be made in the chosen fabric. Prices start from £1750.

3. Mobile Bespoke service – this is a new service with appointments being made in the clients home or place of work (ooh I like the sound of that one!). Selected samples of wedding gowns, accessories are taken along with fabrics swatches and any other items requested by the clients. Prices start from £2,000.

For more info on Eleanor, her wedding dresses, her stockists or to book an appointment have a look at her site www.eleanorofori.co.uk.

“Eleanor designed my beautiful wedding dress and I will eternally be grateful. I was impressed with her fantastic advice and guidance. Eleanor was really patient, and designed the wedding dress to suit everything
