Summer Wedding bouquets and arrangements

Thanks to Britt and Liz from Flourish & Green for sending me these photos from a recent wedding – The bride is actually a friend of mine’s sister and I recommended Britt, seeing as she did a fab job at my own wedding a couple of years ago. She uses local and seasonal flowers and foliage – the arrangements below look so crisp and fresh!summer wedding flowersWhat a wonderful mix of fresh, seasonal flowers for this summer wedding at Pembridge Lodge, in Richmond Park – Hydrangeas, Delphiniums, Stocks, garden roses call Walzertrum, Peonies, Oreganum, Flowering Mint, Alchemilla, Lisianthus, Beech foliage for the big pedestals and Ivy for the other foliage. Love Peonies… so wanted them at my own wedding but got the seasons a bit confused as they are definitely not the flower of choice in the winter. Still I was very happy with my roses and berries!high res summer wedding flowers* What did you really love about doing this wedding?
We loved taking the bride and her mother for a market visit and although her dream was to have sweet peas, they were just going over, which we stressed to her and in the end we had to use mostly peonies and roses – she welled up with delight when she saw it – just a lovely moment to remember. Another lovely bit was seeing them after the wedding when although trying to hide away looking very grubby and tired we got huge hugs and kisses from Dawn (mother of the bride) who couldn’t have been lovelier!Summer Wedding flowersThe Mother of the bride sent a glowing testimonial and here are just a few of her words…
The Church flowers and arrangements at Pembroke Lodge were absolutely perfect. You understood exactly the look that Kate wanted and got it completely right. All those words breath taking, stunning, magnificient seem too predictable so really I’m at a loss as to how to express our appreciation. We loved everything.
Wow well clearly only a good word to say about Britt and Liz from Flourish & Green and I have to say that I had the same experience with them at my wedding. I’ve featured their work on LMW before, summer wedding flowers from a wedding at High Road House in Chiswick, do have a little look at the post – flowers in the little jam jar vases make cute table arrangements.

easter egg favours

Real Life Easter Wedding * Hannah and Stephen, Halifax

Collage of Wedding PhotosI can’t remember how, but I came across wedding photographer Sam Clayton a while ago and loved her work so asked if I could feature her on LMW. This is the first of two beautiful weddings that she sent me – Hannah & Stephen’s wedding on Easter Saturday, 3rd April 2010.

Although both living in the East Midlands, Hannah & Stephen held their wedding near Halifax. They had their ceremony at St Matthew’s church in Lightcliffe just up the road from Stephen’s parents house after which they headed over to Stephen’s sister’s house where the reception was held in a marquee in the fabulous garden.bride and bridesmaidbride and flowergirlsHannah got ready with her 2 bridesmaids in a little cottage in the garden, renovated specifcially for the wedding. Her Ian Stewart dress was stunning & the bridesmaids dresses had a grecian feel to them which were worn with flat gladiator style sandals. Don’t those flowergirls look so cute in their little dresses (I think that they might be from Monsoon as I saw something very similar last time I was in there)
Because it was Easter Saturday, Hannah had lots of ‘easter’ touches in the table decorations – Little bird eggs nesting at the bottom of floral displays & chocolate egg favours.

And don’t you just love the chocolate cupcakes in butterfly cases??chocolate cupcakes in butterfly casesThe views from the road outside the venue were amazing and Sam managed to get some lovely photos there, as well as using different parts of the large garden. Friends & family had spent many weekends leading up to the wedding helping to get the garden in order.bride and groom kissingbride and groom landscape shot
I asked Sam what she particularly enjoyed about shooting Hannah and Stephen’s wedding…
“I remember that the weather forecast for the day was not good, yet we ended up with a lovely day, perfect for dramatic photos across the valley. I absolutely loved Hannah’s huge bow on the back of her dress. A great detail to photograph, providing interest on the back of her dress and I just love bows!”

If like me you have fallen in love with some of these photos then make sure that you check out her site Sam Clayton Photography and her blog where you can see more piccies and find out more info about hiring her for your wedding.

Don’t you just love the dresses, the big bow on Hannah’s dress, the bridesmaids and the flowergirls all look gorgeous don’t they?

wine bottle tag

Wedding Wine tags – another fun novelty?

Ok so this is a bit out there and to be honest I’m not sure that I would have them at my wedding (my husband says that they’re unnecessary)… but this blog is not all about me, its about showing the boutique and unique wedding ideas…and these most certainly are unique.

wine bottle tag

Its a personalised wedding wine tag – hang them round the bottles of wine at dinner and print whatever you want on there – use them as a favour or write the table name on there for people to take home as a keepsake. You have to give it to the girls that it came up with this idea… it is fun and a little bit novel. It amazes me that people still come up with new ‘inventions’.

wine labels

I hear some of you creative bods saying you could do this yourself, which by the way I am sure you could. But for those of us who aren’t very creative (or don’t have the time/ lazy) then you can outsource to the experts at DrinkMeTags and let them do all the hard work for you…
The only problem is that you have to order in bulk (min qty of 250 for customized cards – price per card is $2.25 USD which includes consultation and 3 revisions)

What do you think? Would you go for something like this? Would you make them yourselves or would you look to get someone like Drink Me Tags do the hard work for you?? – already had a couple of comments that they are an unnecessary extravagance in these tough times!

Butterfly Invitation

Unique Origami Wedding Invites and Stationery

I saw these amazing creations by Paperbird Design at the Designer Wedding Show and just fell in love with this beautiful wedding stationery. They are just beautiful and So stylish!

Lotus Flower Invitation and Box

Lotus Flower Invitation and Box

There are 4 signature designs – heart, butterfly, lily and lotus flower and they are all hand crafted from crisp cotton. Each piece of origami is unique and made to order – they even come with their own certificate of authenticity and individual registration number, so they make a great keepsake for your guests. The butterfly and heart design come with their own heavy woven finish envelope and sticker to seal, and the lotus flower and lily come in their own specially designed presentation boxes and are secured with stickers.

Mixed Designs

The designs come in white as standard, but different fabrics or colours can be ordered at request (and at an additional cost). Whilst they are not cheap (prices start at £7) I think that they are fantastic value given the fact that they are all handmade and clearly there is a lot of work and talent that goes into each one. This is one of the most beautiful touches that I have seen and I would have LOVED to have sent these invites out to my guests or had them as name places at my wedding.

Check out the Paperbird Design website for more information – I will be publishing a unique interview with Eve, the Design Director from Paperbird Design in the next couple of weeks so make sure that you check back here on LMW to find out more tips and inspiration from a truly talented designer. Let me know your thoughts on these invites. Have you seen any other really beautifully crafted wedding stationery out there or at weddings that you have been to?

Wednesday wedding blog love

Vintage Caravan Interior via Myvintageparty

Here is my weekly wedding blog round up. What I have enjoyed reading this week – take a peek, leave me comments and your thoughts or just point me in the direction of any good ones I am missing please!

This week I am starting with Myvintageparty blog which funnily enough is a blog for all things vintage old and lovely. Myvintageparty hires out vintage china and crockery for special events and weddings and the more recent addition to the company is the fabulous vintage caravan (which I just love). Hire it for a vintage hen party or for afternoon tea and cakes on your wedding day (it looks like you can sleep in it too so there is little need to elope off to a hotel for your first night of married bliss!). What a great, fun and slightly novel idea – there is lots of other good chat, vintage tips, photos and inspiration on her blog.

For my photography choice it has to be Elemental Weddings and Portraits blog This couple are photographers based up in Scotland and their blog is full of pics of all the weddings that they have been shooting. There is clearly a LOT of wind up there in Scotland but they still manage to get pics of the bride and groom looking calm and relaxed – no wonder they are shortlisted for VOWS Awards 2009 (awards for the Scottish Wedding Industry). Check out their blog for recent pics from some lovely Scottish weddings and get voting for them for these Awards.

I got sent this blog by the bride herself Mithi, check out her wedding blog posts at Planetmithi blog – her wedding might be over now but looks like it was a whole load of fun. And more importantly for us it has masses of good ideas and tips (to steal) such as using old milk bottles for table numbers, really cool DIY table decorations, flower arrangements and hand designed name places.

If you’re looking for a few green tips I like her idea of a great way to recycle the flowers – she gave cellophane flower bags filled with flowers from the table arrangements to people as leaving presents. Wow I would have loved to have been at her wedding all very creative (which I suppose you would expect from someone that is an illustrator). Her blog is well worth a good read and a haven of inspiration for anyone getting married or involved in wedding planning.

And last but by no means least – it is the blog of wedding planner Zoe Lingard. Her style and inspiration boards are beautiful and her blog is a good source of inspiration and tips for couples getting married – like for example the brilliant post that she has just written on wedding favours. Before meeting a wedding planner, or considering taking one on its well worth a look at their blog as it is an insight into their sense of style, what they like and how they work.

I am meant to recommend 5 but I have already written a long post and these 4 are so good that they make up for me missing out one!

Ned and Winks ‘home-grown’ country wedding

A natural country wedding in Oxfordshire – a ‘romantic home-grown wedding’ were the words of the bride herself. Wink, is a stylish girl who writes for numerous interiors and decor magazines in the UK so its no surprise that she managed to pull off such a beautiful, stylish wedding and more importantly to do it on a budget.

The bridal procession in the church

The bridal procession in the church

I suppose that is the exact point of this site – to give people unique wedding ideas, advice and tips to have the wedding that they want to have without it needing to cost the earth.  It can cost the earth if you want it too, but its amazing what you can do with nature, friends (preferably creative ones!), family, laughter, a bit of love and a bit of inspiration from other people’s weddings…. so read on (its her words not mine)

Its all about getting the friends and family involved……

As a child, my favourite book was Brambley Hedge’s Summer story, which tells the tale of two loved-up mice, Poppy Eyebright and Dusty Dogwood, who tie the knot in rustic splendour beneath the wild honeysuckle on a raft floating downstream.  Sadly my Mum and Dads’s house in the country doesn’t stretch to a river, and my fiance Ned’s handy work wouldn’t stretch to a raft for 150 guests, but I wanted to try to recreate some of the country charm I had always associated with Poppy Eyebright’s nuptials, without  getting too carried away with the tweeness of it all.

It was a tall order to tick all of my boxes:  natural, countrified, ecological,  home-grown or home, rustic, yet stylish without being twee!

We went for long trestle tables, an old fashioned marquee with poles on show (not for pole dancing, although there’s a thought), seasonal flowers, fairy lights, bunting, and as many home made trimmings as possible.

A summer wedding was key because to save the planet (and lets face it money) I wanted to keep things seasonal, but wanted masses of flowers.  Whenever family friends offered help, we simply asked for flowers – whatever they could forage from their own and nature’s garden. We ended up with sweet peas, honeysuckle, cosmos, roses and hydrangeas by the wheel barrel load, plus all manner of bushy greenery from the hedgerows.  We hardly spent a penny on extra flowers.

When it came to food, again we wanted seasonal fare as far as possible – a hog roast with late summer roasted veg and salad and a home made wedding cake (choc with white choc icing), decorated with autumn berries (recipe to follow).

Decoration-wise, we did as much as we could ourselves.  We twined ivy and fairy lights around the marquee poles, used old terracotta pots for vases, filled with honeysuckle and sweet peas and beech leaves from the hedges. For place names we wrote on large ivy leaves with silver pens, and for lighting we scattered tea lights in tiny glass vases (IKEA).  I’d always wanted reams of bunting of but however I tried, I couldn’t find it for less that £5 a metre, and our budget certainly couldn’t manage £500 for bunting alone.  So I went to a local fabric shop and bought loads of different coloured gingham material.  My mother in law lovingly cut out about 1000 triangles of each and stapled them on to the longest ribbon of gingham you have ever seen.  Lets just say, we weren’t short of the stuff, and we still use it now – and my daughter Lily has it hanging in her bedroom.

One of our greatest finds were some end of line spotty napkins from Woolworths – for £2 for 5 each they turned out cheaper than hiring them for caterers, and we got to keep them –Lily has just had them at her first birthday party.

Everybody said we had the quintessential country wedding, and to veer away from over tweeness we made sure the cocktails were flowing and the music was rocking all night.  As far as I remember the Brambley Hedge mice didn’t do their first dance to Prince’s Kiss.
