Its one of those tricky things – you need to send something out really before the invite – or at least to let everyone know who is on ‘THE LIST’ and that you want to invite them – a Save the Date is perfect and in line with the rest of our wedding we wanted something a little bit fun, quirky and easy – definitely not something that was going to cost an arm and a leg either.
Lovely’s sister happens to be a bit of a design guru and knocked up this simple design for us which we just got made into a postcard and sent everyone – it was so easy as no need to worry about writing too much, all it needed was the address (you could even email it to save on postage and printing). We set up a joint email address and just asked everyone we invited to email us a quick yes or no to let us know they could come – quick and easy for everyone and much greener than getting RSVP’s by post.
Having a Save the Date means you can work out numbers and get a pretty good idea of who is going to make it on the day (we had hardly anyone change their mind!), without having to worry about the invites so far in advance. Its pretty simple to get someone to knock up something like this (ask them for a jpeg), then just send it to a printers and before you know it you will get something back that is totally unique and means something to you as a couple . I think in total ours cost us £80 or so at the printers and that was for over 200 – so it really is good value.
If you worried about who you can ask for help, don’t! It is that simple that many people will have the skills – I’m sure the nice boy in the design department at work, the agency that you use, or a friend of a friend will be able to put together something, if you promise to give them a nice bottle of wine in return. Don’t forget people love being involved and helping out when it comes to a wedding – I say the more the merrier!
Have you received any unusual invites or save the dates – do you think its a nice touch to bother with Save the Dates or just unnecessary hassle?
Great! I do like the idea of postcards though informal and easy. Another thought about save the dates is to just get a really nice photo of you both (engagement or somewhere special) take this to the printers and they will be able to add the venue info, date and RSVP info.
