Wedding sky paper lanterns are just perfect for a country summer wedding (not so good in the cities as not sure they are that safe near airports and overhead electricity cables!) but they look amazing when all lit up in the sky. If you are out there in a field, by the sea, or somewhere that is not too near to too much civilisation then wedding lanterns are a must. I love them so much that I often light them with friends when they come round for dinner – lots of fun.

Originally from Thailand they were used many years ago by the military as signalling devices, but more recently they are used as a sign of celebration, happiness and lit from the beaches in Thailand at some of the festivals. Folklore says that the lantern take away the bad spirits and bring happiness, fortune and good luck.

Couples all over the world are now choosing to set these off in the evening, into the night sky – very romantic, lots of fun for all the guests and makes for some absolutely lovely pics. In terms of where to buy I have used ‘Wishes in the Sky’ before and they were good, though quite pricey (I think £40 for 10). I just found another site that looks pretty good value selling 50 Wedding lanterns for £86 (delivery is free). This is such a beautiful touch to finish off the night and send the bride and groom on their way – often guests want to write personal messages on the lanterns before letting them off into the night sky with their good wishes.

Are you planning on using sky lanterns at your wedding? Or do you know of anyone who has had them that I could cover in my real life weddings section? Let me know….
