Going against the Honeymoon grain!

A great friend of mine has just started working at Original Travel and was telling me about some of the amazing honeymoons that they organize. I asked her if I could feature a selection on LMW as I’ve only had one honeymoon so I’m lacking a bit of inspiration in that department!
Nepal Mountains and Lake
“Nepal and Oman for a honeymoon? I wasn’t sure about it myself, which is why I didn’t tell my wife until we got to Delhi airport for the onward transfer. There was not that much beach action, and a lot of hills and culture, so it was a gamble.

Thankfully it paid off. While you always need an initial two days to sleep (I think we did a 20 hour stretch to kick off) after that we were looking for adventure rather than sandy toes, and got both. Nepal was stunning and so different: camping in the foothills of the Himalayas with a team of jolly porters and charming guide, the luxury was not in the gold taps, but in the drams of whisky we had as we climbed into our tent at 9.30, or the freshly prepared Momos every evening.

The second leg was hotter, and more rugged yet. We hired a 4×4 in Muscat (Oman) and headed to the Wadis (Arabic term for valley, or dried out riverbed) for swimming in pools, climbing steep hills and camping out under the stars. We either cooked our own food, or headed to the nearest village (most of the time…) and the area was dotted with ruined castles and small markets, mainly selling ancient guns, or sheep – tourism hasn’t hit this area, which suited us perfectly.
Oman Hotel Pool
To finish it all off we needed a little bit of luxury, and where better than the Chedi, one of the top hotels in the Gulf region – long breakfasts, the day lounging in the pool and cocktails before dinner. In retrospect I wouldn’t have done it any other way.”

Al Poulain, Co.Founder of Original Travel, talks to us about his honeymoon – they specialise in arranging unforgettable experiences, adventure led journeys and tailor-made holidays to destinations world-wide. Specialities include honeymoons, family trips, private properties, experience-filled adventures, safaris and luxury exclusive travel. Honestly if you are looking for something a bit different and very special then do check them out, Original Travel. I’m going to tell my husband that we’re due for another honeymoon sometime soon…

    What a fantastic idea.
It’s a bit different from our honeymoon….in Morocco.
We had a wonderful time, though we probably wouldn’t recommend as a honeymoon destination!!!

Nepal is an amazing country, and a real eye opener to visit at any time. My own honeymoon was far less exciting than that though – but when you are young and in love that doesn’t matter!

Looks spectacular although I’m really not sure. I think I’m a firm believer that you should spend the whole of your honeymoon in a bikini (or less ;) ) and never be more than 10 paces from the sea or a swimming pool at a push!!!
