7 Unusual Honeymoon Destinations

Congratulations on your marriage! Here’s hoping you live happily ever after but before you settle down to your routine as husband and wife, it’s time to take your honeymoon. This is not something you should put off for a rainy day. Work and family and life in general will get in the way so it’s best to depart on your honeymoon directly from the chapel.

Where should you go? To the countryside? To a big city? Perhaps you are considering traveling to romantic Paris, or to Venice for a gondola ride? If you are thinking about a honeymoon in the United States your journey could take you to New York, or even to Sin City itself – Las Vegas.

Some of these places are quite affordable, while others may require you to win prizes in the EuroMillions lottery, or alternatively receive quite a large amount of cash gifts at your wedding.

Hong Kong. Get a taste of China without completely leaving the West by spending time in Hong Kong. The city is a shopping paradise and renowned as the culinary capital of Asia. A special treat would be visiting during a local festival, complete with dragon dances and fireworks. Nothing beats the view overlooking Victoria Harbour at night!

Iceland. Iceland is a small island full of other-worldly landscapes. There are geothermal springs, glaciers, active volcanoes, and weird rock formations, but the most amazing natural scenes are in the sky. The Northern Lights create stunning green skyscapes from September to mid-April. Make sure to drive somewhere remote outside Reykjavík on a dark, clear night to fully enjoy the experience.

Istanbul. East meets West in a city with over 2,500 years of history, culture, and traditions. Istanbul’s landmark Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace and Blue Mosque are wonderful to explore. Enjoy the nightlife along the Bosphorus or see a show with whirling dervishes. Don’t forget to bargain for good prices when you shop in the Grand Bazaar!

Galapagos Islands. A visit to this remote archipelago off the coast of Ecuador could very well be your trip of a lifetime. The famous wildlife-watching destination captured the imagination of Charles Darwin and it will astound you as well. You’ll meet penguins, iguanas, giant tortoises, sea lions, albatrosses and an ever-growing number of tourists. Walk carefully on the marked trails and enjoy nature at its best.

Vietnam. Terraced rice fields, silver waterfalls, and tasty street food – Vietnam will tantalize all of your senses. Lose yourself in the bustle of Ho Chi Minh City or travel the country by motorbike. Explore nature, mingle with the natives, or just relax on the beaches.

Dubrovnik. The Pearl of the Adriatic Sea at the southern tip of Croatia will amaze you with the renaissance architecture of its Old Town. Walk atop the city walls for the best views. If your honeymoon plans include a Mediterranean cruise, you may end up docking in Dubrovnik’s harbour.

Grand Canyon. Maybe white water rafting on the Colorado River is not your idea of a romantic honeymoon. Atop the canyon, however, viewing the immensity of the steep-sided canyon with its colourful rock layers is simply breath-taking. Avoid the crowds at the canyon’s south rim and make the effort to visit the north rim, near Utah. You won’t be disappointed.

Wales. You might be wondering why we have added Wales to this list. The reason for this is that it is a place where you can truly escape people and have a nice quiet relaxing break away from it all. We would recommend having a look at some caravan sites that are in the middle of no where. You could even rent a camper van and do a mini tour around the lovely countryside of wales.
